Children's Camp in Neighboring Republic 2008
This project has been planned and will be provided with the participation of local churches and
our first-year students, several of whom have already worked there and are acquainted with the particularities of this country.
The local church is ready to pay part of the cost for living arrangements, food, and other expenses. But for this project to take place, additional finances are needed. If the Lord gives you a desire to uphold this project, sacrifice lavishly! This will be a good investment in the extension of the Kingdom of God!
"Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness." (2 Cor 9.10)
Description of Project
This project is geared to help our brothers and sisters with their not-so-easy work: the provision of a children and youth camp in a country where believers comprise less than .01% of the population. A local church camp is available for use in this project.
At the present time, camp is the beginning step in ministry for children. Sunday School does
exist in the churches, but this is seen as the second step for the children who have recently heard about Jesus Christ. Our desire is to serve the Lord by helping children hear about Him. The desire to assist in a camp in 2008 grew out of the joy seen on the faces of the children after they came to a camp a year ago. (And at that time, there weren't even enough workers.)
Last year, in addition to other events, there were regular evening meetings when everyone gathered for conversation and interaction. Here is where special help is important to review the bible lesson provided in the morning and make the evenings interesting. Usually the children were divided into groups of 5-7 people for a time of bible study. Unfortunately, for 60-70 children there were only 15 Christian workers and of them very few were adults and leaders.
What we really liked about this camp was the efforts to help children who don't receive help or love from others. The most important part was that they got acquainted with Jesus Christ.
The Goals of Project
1. To become leaders and helpers in children's work.
2. To provide bible lessons for children. The camp is particularly in need of teachers who have the
ability to correctly present biblical knowledge.
3. To help to look after and provide care for the children.
4. To organize games, skits, relay races, sports tournaments, musical groups and -most importantly-
evening gatherings.
5. To help in the regular work of the camp.
An Invitation
We very much want to help in a camp in this country! Our brothers and sisters have requested
that we come for 2 1/2 weeks. We received an invitation from the head of the Baptist union of churches and from the person in charge of children's services in the country. They have agreed to provide for our residence, food and other expenses in the city.
Who Will Go
Six students from our university will participate in this opportunity, each of whom have particular experience and will carry specific responsibility for a portion of the work involved.
Projected Financial Needs
The camp organizers are wanting us to come; they will help in providing the camp and have agreed to pay for part of the expenses. What remains includes the need for funds to cover the following:
1. Tickets for 6 people: $5120 This is the biggest and most important expense.
2. Materials needed for the camp: $827
This includes prizes for the games,
a guitar for the evening gatherings,
books, cards and T-shirts.
3. Expenses in the city for the group: $415
4. Unforeseen expenses: $705
Total = $7067
Will you help us? May the Lord bless you as you consider this opportunity!
