Celebrating St. Petersburg Christian University’s 19th year Anniversary
St. Petersburg Christian University celebrated its 19th birthday on October 23rd, 2009.
19 years is a fairly interesting age, both for young adult and an academic institution.
One's 18th birthday is often attributed to the approaching time of complete independence in one's life.
In many countries, it is the age where one is responsible for himself before the law and social obligations.
But the year has passed. Before realizing the upcoming anniversary it is necessary to thing about the next ten or twenty years. Needless to say, for an academic institution 20 years is not vast time-frame. So this is just the beginning, only the first big step. Looking back, we are starting to get ready for a great celebration, but first in a closer circle.
So it was on that day. The students, faculty and staff all gathered to remember the past, the first steps of the university and their own personal steps in ministry and joint work.
During chapel service that day, Moris Dowling, member of the Board of Directors, shared his congratulatory message from the Board of Directors. He urged to be watchful and always comparing one's own spiritual growth with time and progression. Doctor Dowling pointed out the halting of spiritual growth in one, a church, or a country.
After chapel, festivities were moved to the cafeteria where along with tea and desserts other emotional aspects of the university's life were unveiled.
It was very interesting to hear comical and humorous, nostalgic, and even romantic testimonies and experiences. One of the most notable pieces of the night was the reading of Alexander Pushkin's poems by a very strong Canadian accent.
Another memorable event of the life of SPbCU and the protestant world in general was mentioned with the highlighting of Tatyana Nikolskaya's newly published monograph. A bit overwhelmed with all the congratulations, presentations, and open seminars, Tatyana humbly accepted the co
ngratulations with flowers from SPbCU's president Alexander Ivanovich Negrov.
Fellowship continued quite for a while because no one wanted this fine moment to end. In the end, everyone left in anxiety for next anniversary year.
