Inauguration of the First-Year Students

The evening devoted to the inauguration of the new students was held on the 9th of October.

This day can be compared to the celebrations of one's first birthday, when an infant begins to make its own steps and begins to feel a certain responsibility for his actions. Similar to them are students, who decided to study at a Christian University, and within a month are beginning to realize the extent of importance of their decision and are meeting new difficulties on their way to receiving their cherished diploma.

However, on that day, "heavy" hearts were not attributed neither to the new students, nor the upperclassmen, of the second and third years.

The program, prepared by students of all years for each other and the guests, was sensationally breath-taking.
The atmosphere, setting, the masqueraded presentation, detailed competitions, and skits were filled with humor and skillful implementation.

For the inauguration, as it is expected in any inauguration, was done in a "ritual" fashion. The atmosphere of a sacrament or a ritual ceremony intrigued the guests.

The first-year students needed to go through various trials, seeing their lives within SPbCU walls from a third person perspective of those who have been "eating up knowledge" for more than a year.

Besides the Russian-speaking students, students from Canada and the USA took part in the program. They "tried on" true Russian appearances and even performed some Russian folklore. Their presentation was incredibly comical. Russian boots and hats that they wore, which flew off during their successful Russian dance, showed how easily they have adapted to our culture.

Other pieces included songs which were composed by the students.

Various competitions were included, such as trying to put on a frozen t-shirt.

At the end of the event, SPbCU's president, Alexander Negorv, congratulated the students with the commencing of their studies and sincerely wished them good luck. He highlighted the creativity of each incoming wave of students, some of which are unique and unexpected, but it is important that they do not surpass the level of cynicism, but remains sincere, gushing with imaginations.
Concluding the event, the students, faculty and staff, and the guests fellowshipped with delicious treats.
