SPbCU participated in an International Conference of the Society of Biblical Literature

From July 25-29, the head of the Department of Biblical Studies, Valery Alikin, took part in an International Conference of the Society of Biblical Literature, held in Tartu, Estonia, on the campus of Tartu University. The conference was attended by about 800 academics of Biblical studies from many countries.

 

 

 

 

 

Valery Alikin gave two presentations. The first report was at the plenary session, where Valery acted as an opponent to Professor Philip Davis of the University of Sheffield on his book "Whose is it, the Bible?" In the section "Christianity and Greco-Roman world", the head of the Department of Biblical Studies at SPbCU made a report on "The Origin of the morning service in early Christianity."

 

 

 

 

 

 

Valery Alikin's monograph, "Early History of the Christian assembly," was put on sale for the first time at the conference, which was published in the prestigious series Supplements to Vigiliae Christianae Publishers Brill. At this conference, Valery Alikin also met and established friendly contacts with Biblical scholars of the U.S. and the Netherlands, who are also planning to lectures at SPbCU. At the conference, two dozens of scientific journals on Biblical studies and theology in English and German libraries of SPbCU were purchased.
